As Donald Trump approaches the end of his second term, a fierce debate has erupted across conservative circles over what comes after MAGA. The internal struggle spilled into public view at Turning Point USA's AmericaFest conference in December 2025—the first since founder Charlie Kirk's assassination—where Ben Shapiro branded Tucker Carlson and others 'grifters and charlatans' for platforming antisemite Nick Fuentes, and Carlson mocked Shapiro's attempts to 'deplatform and denounce' critics. The Iran war, the Epstein files, H-1B visas, and the meaning of 'America First' have all become flashpoints in a factional battle over whether the post-Trump GOP will be governed by traditional conservatives, institutional MAGA, or populist nationalists—with Vice President JD Vance the presumptive front-runner.
