An armed dad and a teacher stopped an Oregon school shooter. It took just 3 minutes.
On October 16, 2026, a 16-year-old named Griffin J. John II forced his way into Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, firing a pump-action shotgun into a special needs classroom and killing three children (ages 5, 8 and 11) and a 25-year-old teacher, while wounding a 7-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher. The attack was stopped in roughly three minutes: a teacher threw her cellphone and tackled the gunman, attempting to disarm him, while Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old carpenter and father of two students at the school, grabbed a legally owned .40-caliber pistol from his vehicle, pursued the shooter inside, and fatally shot him. Police arrived at 1:02 p.m., three minutes after the first 911 call, to find the suspect already dead. The shooter used a shotgun purchased by his mother, and investigators are still probing his motive and how he obtained the weapon.
